About Cheesy

What is saved, what leaves your browser and what this site is made with.

In short

  • Your progress stays in your browser.

  • Only the positions of the endgames leave, towards Lichess.

  • No accounts, no cookies.

  • Open source, under the GPL-3 licence.

Privacy

No accounts, no cookies.

This is what is saved in your browser and the only thing that leaves it.

Stays in your browser

  • Your progress in OpeningsWhich lines you have practised and which you master.
  • Lessons completedWhich lessons of Learn you finished and how many exercises you got on the first try.
  • Puzzles of Practise moreWhich Lichess puzzles you played, how many times and whether you solved them on the first try the last time.
  • Endgames passed and positions solvedAnd which ones you solved at the first try.
  • The languageWhether you choose Spanish or English.
  • The reading modeWhether you read the moves in Words or in Notation.
  • The tablebase panelWhether you want it open or folded in Endgames.

None of this leaves your device. If you switch browser or computer, you start from scratch.

How to delete it

Clear progress, in Learn, Openings, Endgames and Positions, clears the progress of that section.

To delete everything at once, clear the data of this site from your browser settings.

Goes to Lichess

In Endgames, the opponent plays what the Lichess tablebase says, and the panel shows you the theoretical result. For that, every position of the endgame is sent to Lichess while you play, also each time the opponent moves and with the panel open or folded.

Only the position travels: no account, no cookies and not the address of the page. As in any connection, Lichess sees your IP address. If Lichess does not answer, Stockfish plays on your device.

Philidor position, at the start. Black to move.
b - - 0 1

This is all that is sent. Each part is a rank of the board, from 8 to 1; hover or focus one to see it.

In Openings, Positions and Analysis your moves do not leave here: the engine runs inside your browser.
