About the lessons

The lessons teach chess from scratch, in short steps and always with the board in front of you. They come in three levels. Beginner: the board, how each piece moves and the first mates. Intermediate: tactics and the endgames you need to know. Advanced: strategy, that is, pawn structures, plans and calculation. Each lesson mixes explanations with exercises where you make the moves.

The chess words used in the lessons are in the glossary, with a plain definition and an example board, and you can look them up without leaving the lesson. Many intermediate lessons end with Practise more: real puzzles from games in the open Lichess database, grouped by theme and going from easiest to hardest.
