About the positions
Each position has a winning move, and your job is to find it. There are named mates, such as the smothered mate, the back-rank mate or Anastasia’s mate, tactical blows such as the fork, the pin or the skewer, and moments from famous games, such as Morphy’s Opera Game or Anderssen’s Evergreen. If you get stuck, you can start again or see the solution.
The gallery names no position, because in a real game nobody warns you that there is a fork. Inside, the name may give you a hint, but the solution stays hidden until you solve it or ask to see it, and then each position explains why the combination works. Every solution has been checked with Stockfish: each of your moves is the best one, with no equally good alternative.
